Tibor Hegedűs, M.D.

I graduated from university in 1969, I specialized in obstetrics/gynaecology in 1974 and in clinical oncology in 1982. I have been working at Kútvölgyi Hospital since 1980 where the versatility of the department was the one that got to me. As a doctor, cytology, cancer screening and treating inflammation is highly important to me. I think when it comes to gynaecological treatment, treating the partners is also important, given the high prevalence of contact transmissions. I consider education on hygiene and sexual culture as my duty.
By delivering babies I regularly meet life and by being an oncologist I meet death quite as often: this contrast affects me largely. In the past 50 years, what I experienced in this job is that by technological development, people raised their disease awareness and I find it important to debunk misconceptions.
As an obstetrician my job is not just to deliver the baby but I also to be responsible for later development. I always consider the needs of my patients. I am not against dads in the delivery room or methods that do not follow formalities until the child is safe. I think professional guidance of delivery is essential.
Sport has always had a major role in my life, and I am still trying to find time for it. Since I was thinking about becoming a literary historian earlier in my life, books are very close to me. My four favourites are the Bible, Faust, Divine Comedy and Tragedy of the Man. I always enjoy reading these whenever I have time.
