Following my medical studies, I first completed my specialist examination for paediatric medicine. Afterwards, my interest turned towards paediatric cardiology, leading me to complete my next specialist examination in this field. My first job was at the Madarász Street Children’s Hospital. After that, I joined the Hungarian Institute of Cardiology as a research associate. Between 1977 and 1978, I went to a year-long study trip to England, and acquired expertise in paediatric and infant echocardiography, a field just beginning to emerge in Europe during those years. As such, the introduction of this practice in Hungary is attributed to me. Fetal echocardiography began during the start of the 1980s, prompting me to return to England. There, I learned the technique from Allen Lindsay, one of the most renowned experts in this field, who was also the one who developed this method. Upon my return, I successfully facilitated the introduction of this technique in Hungary.
In 1984–85, I approached Professor Zoltán Papp regarding the significance of fetal heart diagnoses. He provided immense support: we wrote the first article on fetal arrhythmias. Afterwards, when Professor Papp founded Maternity, I joined him without hesitation.
The child and fetal echocardiography is close to my heart not only for personal reasons, but also because they are safe and harmless methods, which do not involve any pain. At Maternity Private Clinic, I specialize in infant and children paediatric cardiology examinations, as well as fetal cardiology. I always strive to minimize waiting times for mothers during examinations. As a mother, I know that a mother’s worries are not to be trifled with, so I always aim to provide comfort and solutions to every as quickly as possible.
I like to spend my free time with my family. My husband, István Hartyánszky, is an adult cardiac surgeon, who had performed the first child heart transplant. My sin, István Hartyánszky Jr. is the head of the Heart and Vascular Surgery Clinic of Városmajor. I have four beautiful grandchildren and spending time with them is the most precious to me. In addition, I also like to tend to my garden and swim, given the opportunity.
