Breast ultrasound

Breast ultrasound is a painless, radiation-free imaging test that allows for detailed analysis of breast tissue. It is particularly recommended for younger women, as mammography is less effective in cases with dense breast tissue. Using ultrasound, the doctor can obtain an accurate image of the mammary glands, fatty tissues and any possible abnormalities.
Regular screenings play a key role in early disease detection, which is essential for effective treatment. Therefore, it is recommended that women over the age of 30 undergo an annual breast ultrasound. For women under 45, the first step is a breast ultrasound, and if necessary, mammography may follow.

When is breast ultrasound recommended?

  • When a lump or pain is felt
  • As part of routine screening for younger women
  • If there is a family history of breast cancer
  • In case of frequent inflammations or cystic changes
  • To clarify ambiguous findings from mammography

How is the examination performed?

During the examination, the patient lies on their back while the radiologist moves the ultrasound probe over the breasts and underarm area. The doctor uses a special gel that helps with the transmission of sound waves, allowing for more accurate imaging.

What results can we expect?

Breast ultrasound can detect cysts, benign lumps, inflammatory changes and tumors.

Thyroid ultrasound

A quick, safe and painless imaging diagnostic procedure that allows for detailed examination of the thyroid structure and potential abnormalities. Ultrasound can detect thyroid nodules, cysts, and inflammatory processes.

Why is timely thyroid ultrasound important?

Thyroid diseases often develop without symptoms, so timely ultrasound examinations are crucial for early detection and proper treatment.

When is thyroid ultrasound recommended?

  • When a neck lump or swelling is noticed
  • If there is unexplained weight change, fatigue or irritability
  • In case of suspected thyroid disease or known thyroid problems
  • If there is a family history of thyroid diseases
  • After laboratory tests showing hormonal imbalances

Abdominal and pelvic ultrasound examination

Abdominal and pelvic ultrasound helps the radiologist obtain an accurate image of the organs located in the abdomen and pelvis.

During the examination the following organs can be examined in detail:

  • Liver, gallbladder, bile ducts – detecting inflammation, gallstones, tumors, cysts
  • Pancreas – identifying structural changes and tumors
  • Spleen – examining enlargement, injuries, and other abnormalities
  • Kidneys, bladder – detecting kidney stones, inflammatory diseases, tumors, and other changes
  • Stomach and intestines – indirectly detecting changes such as inflammatory bowel diseases
  • Pelvic organs (in women, the uterus and ovaries, in men, the prostate) – detecting cysts, tumors, and inflammation

When is abdominal and pelvic ultrasound recommended?

  • When experiencing persistent abdominal pain, bloating, or digestive issues
  • If kidney or gallstones are suspected
  • In case of frequent urinary tract infections or urination problems
  • For pelvic pain or menstrual issues
  • As a routine health check-up

How to prepare for the examination?

For more accurate results, it is important not to eat for at least 6 hours before the examination. For pelvic ultrasound, a full bladder is required, so drinking plenty of still water is essential.

Neck soft tissue ultrasound

This examination helps assess the condition of organs and tissues in the neck area. High-resolution ultrasound waves are used to examine the salivary glands, lymph nodes, and other soft tissues in detail.

When is neck soft tissue ultrasound recommended?

  • When there is neck swelling, pain, or palpable lumps
  • To check the size and structure of lymph nodes
  • For diagnosing thyroid and salivary gland diseases
  • To identify inflammatory processes or cysts
  • After neck surgeries for follow-up

How is the examination performed?

The patient lies comfortably on her back while the radiologist uses an ultrasound probe and special gel to take images of the soft tissues. The procedure is completely painless and takes only 15-20 minutes.

What can the examination detect?

It can identify various benign and malignant changes, cysts, inflammations, and other abnormalities. The results help in making an accurate diagnosis and planning appropriate treatment.

How to prepare for the examination?

No special preparation is needed for the examination, but it’s recommended to wear loose clothing for easy access to the neck area.

Peripheral soft tissue ultrasound

Peripheral soft tissue ultrasound helps in examining subcutaneous connective tissue structures, muscles, tendons, lymph nodes, cysts, tumors, and inflammatory processes.

When is the examination recommended?

  • When examining subcutaneous lumps, swelling, or cysts
  • To diagnose injuries (e.g., muscle strain, muscle rupture, tendon injuries)
  • To check for enlarged lymph nodes and structural changes
  • To detect inflammatory processes
  • To identify tumors and other tissue abnormalities

How is the examination performed?

The patient exposes the affected area, and the radiologist uses an ultrasound probe and gel to take real-time images of the examined area.
