We offer comprehensive laboratory tests and packages for our patients. Our examinations cover a wide range of gynecological and prenatal, as well as infant and child care, aiding in monitoring health status and pregnancy. The doctor shall decide on the required tests, after considering the stage of the pregnancy, the health status, health issues, and individual circumstances of the patient.

The list below does not include all available laboratory tests. If you cannot find the desired item, please email us at labor@maternity.hu, and our colleagues will gladly provide a quote!

General laboratory tests

Complete Blood Count (CBC)

A laboratory test that examines the components of blood cells. A full blood count includes the determination of white blood cells, neutrophils, LUC (Large Unstained Cells) percentage, lymphocytes, monocytes, basophils, eosinophils, red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV (Mean Corpuscular Volume), MCH (Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin), MCHC (Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration), RDW-CV (Red Cell Distribution Width), platelets, and MPV (Mean Platelet Volume).

Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)

This test is perfect for assessing general health. In addition to the CBC, it includes the following: glucose from plasma, TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), alkaline phosphatase, CRP (C-Reactive Protein), ferritin, GGT (Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase), GOT (Glutamate Oxaloacetate Transaminase), GPT (Glutamate Pyruvate Transaminase), calcium (Ca), urea, creatinine, LDH (Lactate Dehydrogenase), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), total protein, total bilirubin, transferrin, iron (Fe).

Blood type and antibody screening

This test determines the blood type and detects any antibodies present in the blood. It is especially important in cases where there is a risk of blood transfusion, such as during surgery or pregnancy. Although the blood type does not change, antibodies can change over time, making it essential that blood typeand antibody screening are done within a month before surgery. Multiple screenings may be necessary during pregnancy due to the reasons mentioned above.

Thrombosis panel

Includes the most important molecular genetic tests associated with inherited thrombosis risk, a common cause of deep vein thrombosis and venous thromboembolism. This panel includes testing for Factor V Leiden mutation, the G20210A mutation in the prothrombin gene, and the C677T point mutation in the MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) gene, as well as PAI-1 gene testing. It is recommended to be performed before pregnancy, especially if there is a history of infertility or recurrent miscarriages. It is also advisable before prescribing the first oral contraceptive, as well as in cases of a family history of thrombosis.

Preoperative laboratory panel

Preoperative assessments provide detailed information about the patient’s known and potentially unknown diseases, which help the anesthesiologist choose the most appropriate anesthetic method during surgery. Additionally, preoperative tests help identify factors that could potentially complicate the procedure. Depending on the patient’s comorbidities, additional tests and specialist opinions may be required.

Laboratory tests during pregnancy

TORCH Panel

An umbrella term for infections that can harm the fetus during pregnancy. It is advisable to perform this test before pregnancy, as it helps determine whether the pregnant woman has previously contracted any of these infections. The test allows for the prevention of severe and less severe fetal diseases caused by these viruses.

HBsAg and Syphilis (RPR, TPHA)

A test performed during the first trimester of pregnancy, identifying antibodies against infectious agents in the blood. An HBsAg carrier mother can infect the newborn during childbirth, so the baby must receive a vaccination within 12 hours of birth. In the case of syphilis, the fetus can become infected through the placenta, leading to severe consequences. Symptoms may appear immediately after birth, or they may not manifest until after the child is two years old. Early detection and prompt treatment are crucial.

HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin)

The “pregnancy hormone,” produced by the embryo and later by the placenta during pregnancy. Contrary to popular belief, it is not only used to diagnose pregnancy but also has diagnostic value in certain gynecological conditions.

Trimester laboratory tests

During pregnancy, the mother’s body undergoes numerous changes, which must be closely monitored for the health of both the fetus and the expectant mother. At our clinic, we offer three comprehensive trimester laboratory test packages that provide a thorough examination of the pregnant patient’s health.

OGTT (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test)

A crucial test performed during the 24th week of pregnancy to diagnose gestational diabetes. The patient should arrive fasting for a morning appointment. After the 0-minute sample is taken, the patient must consume 75 grams of glucose, and another sample is taken 120 minutes later. The results are evaluated by an obstetrician-gynecologist. In special cases, glucose tolerance testing may need to be performed earlier, as determined by the physician managing the pregnancy.

NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing)

The umbrella term for the latest fetal DNA tests.

An ultrasound examination is required before performing any genetic test (NIPT test).

Combined Test and Toxemia Screening

A non-DNA-based test performed between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy, used for risk assessment based on maternal age, ultrasound, and markers measured during blood tests. The risk of pregnancy toxemia can be determined in the first trimester, taking into account maternal parameters, blood pressure values, fetal protein concentrations measured from maternal blood, and flow measurements in the uterine arteries.

Preeclampsia

Recognized by the presence of high blood pressure and proteinuria. It carries risks for both mother and fetus. The risk can be screened in the first trimester and later monitored through additional laboratory parameters.
