Interview with Réka Mészáros-Vuleta, maternity coordinator

You recently joined Maternity as a maternity coordinator. What were you doing before you came to the clinic?

I earned a degree in economics from the Budapest Business School, specializing in tourism and catering. I worked in sales and commerce in the private sector for over ten years. Building and fostering human relationships has always been important to me, as well as doing work that offers new experiences and challenges.

What jobs did you have previously?

I began my career at one of the leading electronics companies in the field of sales support. During my time there, I learned a great deal about sales and distribution processes, system and structure-oriented thinking, and the importance of strategic planning. This experience provided a very useful and valuable foundation for later taking over and building the sales structure of a winery in Badacsony, which is now recognized as one of the most well-known Hungarian wine brands. I consider the development and successful adaptation of the brand concept and personality to the retail and gastronomic markets as one of the key milestones in my professional career.

Later, I transitioned into the design sector, where I was also involved in sales and procurement. I spent over a year there before being approached by a global luxury brand conglomerate, which was the exclusive distributor of alcoholic beverages in Hungary. This was a significant opportunity, so I naturally accepted.

However, after some time, I felt the need for a break and time to decide which direction I wanted to take professionally. During this period, it became clear to me that I wanted a varied, but more people-centered role compared to my previous positions, so I decided not to return to the corporate environment.

How did you get in contact with Maternity?

When I wanted to change gynecologists, I asked Dr. Rita Bérczes, whom I knew from the wine industry and was aware that she worked at Maternity, for a recommendation. That’s how I ended up at Dr. Barbara Rigó, whom I’ve been seeing ever since. Each visit left me with a very positive impression of the clinic, thanks to the friendly, polite, and professional attitude of the staff.

Since I had long been interested in private healthcare, I looked into current job opportunities and sent in my resume. The HR manager contacted me and offered me the position of birth coordinator, which is closely related to sales as well.

I really enjoy the work because, while it’s dynamic, it’s also much calmer and different from what I used to do. It’s inspiring for me to meet a variety of people and find ways to help them. I’m particularly pleased that I’m working with more and more international patients, as I can make use of my English skills.

What are your responsibilities as a maternity coordinator?

For me, the most important thing is to ensure that expectant mothers and fathers feel they have received comprehensive and reassuring answers to all their questions, allowing them to look forward to the arrival of their baby and the wonderful time leading up to it with joy and without worries.

My daily tasks include maintaining contact with patients, signing delivery contracts, following up on them, and handling any modification requests. I also deal with the sale of services related to delivery packages, such as prenatal care and pediatric examinations, as well as courses on preparing for motherhood and first aid. I find it essential that patients receive all the necessary support and feel safe with us.

There are patients we accompany from their first personal clinic visit in early pregnancy through to signing the contract. Often, the relationship doesn’t end there, and it brings us great joy when patients give feedback after birth, thanking us for the help and support they received from us.

What is teamwork like with your colleagues?

From the very beginning, my fellow maternity coordinator, Réka, and I found common ground, which has allowed us to work together very well. The dynamic within the entire Maternity team is excellent; from the first moment, everyone has been incredibly supportive and friendly. We all strive to perform our work to the highest standards, in line with the values represented by Maternity, which I particularly appreciate because I approach my tasks with the same mindset.

What are the challenges in your daily work?

On a daily basis, I face challenges, especially with special cases where issues arise that cannot be addressed in the usual way. In such situations, I either look for answers within the organization or forward the questions to the relevant professionals. I believe it’s important to stay up-to-date with information about the clinic’s operations so I can assist patients seamlessly.

I also enjoy taking on these additional tasks because they are educational for me, and it brings me joy when patients are grateful for the well-organized support they receive.

How do you spend your free time?

I really enjoy exercising; it is a part of my daily routine. I usually wake up early in the mornings, and the calm of the early hours is invaluable to me. In the spring and summer, I often run at Normafa before work, while in the fall and winter, due to the morning darkness, I do bodyweight exercises. Occasionally, I also practice yoga, and I recently discovered reformer pilates, which I really like.

My husband and I share a passion for traveling and hiking. We are fortunate to have explored many fantastic places and gathered wonderful memories, so I can hardly wait for our next adventure!

Thank you very much for the conversation!
